Hi John,

Two quick answers:

(1) We haven't looked into it in detail, so I don't know for sure.  Hopefully we can discuss this a bit more at the next HCal meeting.

(2) That sounds like a good idea, and in principle yes I think it should be possible.  A few more cosmics scans in different places on the tile would help, and those are ongoing.  However, an important caveat to this is that the tile coating is not uniform, so the LED scan is not perfectly representative of the light response across the entire tile.  How important that is depends on the level of accuracy needed for the simulations.

(2) On slide 5 (LED scan) you show a beautiful scan of the full tile.  I was looking at this and wondering if this could be used to get a map of the MIP response.  Would it make sense to use the LED map as a relative response and just normalize it to the cosmics MIP response at a few locations (like what you have on the previous two slides)?  Do you think this would yield a reasonable light yield map that could be used in the Monte Carlo?

If so it might be useful to get that from your data and try to implement it in the MC. Of course this is just one tile shape, but maybe we think about a logical way to scale between different sizes.  This may be too much of an extrapolation, but it the absence of anything better it might be a start.
