I like Chris' idea of calling it the first midrapidity hadronic calorimeter, alternatively we could call it the largest hadronic calorimeter ever used at RHIC

Hi Dennis, Megan:
If the statement that you are trying for ends up being too long with qualifiers, then it's likely you're trying too hard and it would be best to drop the statement altogether.
Just my $0.02,

-MeganBest,Hi Dennis,Thanks for the link, I was wondering that too and should have stuck with my initial idea: "the first hadronic
calorimeter ever used at RHIC for studying reconstructed jets in heavy-ion collisions" But I don't know if this makes the statement too long.

Hi all,
Are we sure that is true (first HCal used for full jet reco)? I thought the AnDY measurement was in fact a full (forward) jet measurement: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0370269315007522

-MeganBest,Hi Craig and Chris,I guess to be even more explicit on this point you could say "the first hadronic
calorimeter ever used at RHIC for full jet reconstruction" instead of just "the first hadronic
calorimeter ever used at RHIC"

Hi Chris,
OK. Well, yes, I guess that's technically true. But they weren't used to measure jets. I think it's pretty clear what's meant in this context.
Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig,
I think we had this discussion last year about this claim of the first ever hadronic calorimeter at RHIC. We have the zdc's and we ran with the fcal which are hadronic calorimeters at RHIC. AnDY also had a hadronic calorimeter.

Dear All, We're planning to submit the following abstract to this year's IEEE NSS/MIC on our recent test beam results. Please let us know if you have any comments by the end of the day today. The PHENIX Experiment at RHIC is planning a major upgrade that involves building an entirely new spectrometer based around the former BaBar solenoid magnet that will enable a comprehensive study of jets and heavy quarkonia in relativistic heavy ion collisions. It will include two new calorimeter systems, one electromagnetic and one hadronic, that will cover an acceptance of ±1.1 units in pseudorapidity and 2 pi in azimuth. The hadronic calorimeter (HCAL), which will be the first hadronic calorimeter ever used at RHIC, will be a steel plate and scintillating tile design that is read out with wavelength shifting fibers and silicon photomultipliers. It will be divided into two sections: an Inner HCAL situated inside the magnet and an Outer HCAL located outside the magnet. The electromagnetic calorimeter will be a SPACAL design consisting of a tungsten powder epoxy matrix absorber with embedded scintillating fibers which are also read out with silicon photomultipliers. Prototypes of all three calorimeter detectors have been built and tested in the test beam at Fermilab in April of 2016. Results from those tests, along with a detailed comparison to Monte Carlo simulations, will be presented in this talk. Many thanks, Craig _______________________________________________ Sphenix-hcal-l mailing list Sphenix-hcal-l AT lists.bnl.gov https://lists.bnl.gov/mailman/listinfo/sphenix-hcal-l
