Ed, John,
With contract awarded to Uniplast we'll be in full production mode beginning
next week. I am planning to have weekly Blue Jean or Whatsup conferences so
the routing will get established (in real production we may switch to
biweekly schedule).
Towards the end of the next week we'll have all issues with injection molds
resolved and final optical block design available. At that time I will ask
Richie to print 10 kits and ship them to Uniplast to produce 8 sacrificial
tiles (just make your wish) and ship to BNL for unwrapping and testing before
and/or after ..... at GSU and Colorado. I think it will be time to decide on
cookies between fiber and SiPM.
It will also be a good time to decide on HCal SiPM sorting and matching. In
the earlier time we made no effort to compare the spread in tile light yield
to that of SiPM's. If orders of magnitude are similar then we need to match
tile luminosity to SiPM gain. If one dominates then the other is irrelevant.
We may have this uncertainty resolved by sending all tiles from the last year
to Xiaochun for maybe not so automated testing (will also help to check if
tile calibration made using set of preselected SiPM's will actually deliver
tile luminosity estimate usable to decide tile place in detector).
And finally - counting all our usual delays we may expect real production
tiles to BNL sometime in November.
Edward
