I would like to submit the following abstract to the 2018 IEEE NSS/MIC conference in November on the results of the 2018 FNAL beam test of the EMCal and HCal detectors: Performance of the sPHENIX Calorimeter System and Results of the 2018 Beam Test at Fermilab
E.J. Mannel on behalf of the sPHENIX Collaboration sPHENIX is the next stage of the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory designed to provide a detailed understanding of the evolution of the Quark-Gluon Plasma using precision measurements of jets and heavy flavors in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. The sPHENIX detector is based on the former BaBar 1.5T super-conducting solenoid and consists of precision tracking, electromagnetic (EMCal) and hadronic (HCal) calorimetry covering $2\pi$ in azimuth and $\pm1.1$ in pseudo-rapidity. The EMCal is a 2-D projective calorimeter consisting of scintillating fibers embedded in a tungsten powder infused epoxy. The HCal is 2-D projective design using tilted plate consisting of steel absorber and scintillating tiles with wave-shifting fibers. Both the EMCal and HCal calorimeters use silicon photo-multipliers (SiPMs) as the optical sensor and have a common readout based on a new 14-bit ADC digitizer system system designed for sPHENIX. To verify the final design of the calorimeter system, prototype EMCal and HCal detectors with full readout electronics were constructed and tested at the Fermilab Test Beam Facility as part of the T-1044 experiment in the spring of 2018. In this paper we present the results of the 2018 run of T-1044 and prospects for the sPHENIX experiment.
