- Subject: [Sphenix-hcal-l] Tile tester status
- Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2018 23:44:59 -0400
Hello,
Here's the current state of the HCAL tiles tester:
- Mike sent the tile tester, CAEN, thermocouple electronics, ten small test tiles, and cables to Uniplast, and he has a bill for shipping showing it arriving at Moscow (DME) Airport on the 18th at 00:35.
- Edward purchased a personal laptop which he intends to use to test the tester at Uniplast when he arrives with John L. (For the record, it is a HP Pavilion 14-ce0064st, 14" Laptop, Intel® Core™ i5-8250U, 8 GB DDR4, 256 GB SSD.)
- I put Ubuntu LTS 18.04 on it. I think it's good for this purpose, and the Ethernet, wireless, USB, and the trackpad all work (at the same time!).
- I set it up with root 6.14.04 and the various packages needed to run it.
- I put the GSU software on there and saw that it could load and run; there are a few small differences (the wired Ethernet is eno1, and there was a file pointer test for null that is lightly different with the compiler set on here).
- I set up the thermocouple readout and checked it with Rob Pisani's copy of the hardware.
- I put Dropbox on and connected it to the account that Megan sent me.
- I added my thermocouple readout to the GSU code... although now that I look at it, it may not be what we want, because I fill another TTree in parallel to mppc, and the root files with those trees are not copied to the outside; maybe we want that temperature data to go into the database files.
I rsync'ed everything on this machine to rcf in

You can't get to the machine itself on the network, but you can see everything on it.
You can see pictures of it here:

One thing that's not quite ideal is that I haven't really tested it with ten working tiles and the nice wiring and connectors done at GSU and installed by Mike... I have a few tiles with rather long cables that I have sued to make sure it does trigger and whatnot, but I don't have a great way to get some reference data. I'll see if I can get it tested a little more thoroughly this week.
