sPHENIX HCal discussion

Dear Collaborators,

We need your help with the assembly of the outer HCal!

It requires on average some ten people working in the HCal factory in building 912 for the next half a year or so to get this detector ready in time for sPHENIX data taking.—Right now we have about two.  

I realize the pandemic doesn’t make it any easier for you to travel to BNL.  In fact, we have lost the summer to this issue, where we were hoping to get a head-start with lots of undergraduate labor.  Now, BNL does not allow any undergraduates to enter the lab at all for the foreseeable future.

But we welcome grad students and postdocs, and, yes, professors, staff, technicians!  (Last week we had three professors installing tiles!)  If you are outside of NY, NJ, CT, and PA, and come from a state on the NY quarantine list, no quarantine is required if you take a covid test before you leave, and again when you get here.  (BNL has an approval process specifically for this, termed “Q”).  So you don’t need to worry about wasting two weeks in a hotel.  Also, housing is accepting reservations, and Mariette will be happy to take care of that for you.
