Dear All,

Here the minutes of last week’s meeting (also on indico):

Regards,
Stefan
Megan—history of PR values (see slides)
--------------------------------------------------------
- different thresholds used for part of testing period for B21-B24
  - corrected for by scaling PR
- different methods for preproduction and production tiles to calibrate PR
  - production method better
  - PR values not comparable between production and preproduction
    - shouldn’t be a big problem since production and preproduction tiles largely separated in detector assembly
  - new method can be applied to preproduction tiles after the fact to improve PR normalization—ACTION ITEM (GSU) (done for B26-B32 (see Saif’s talk); still missing for B21-B24)

Saif—effect of recalibrating PR (see slides)
————————————————————————————
- only B26-B32
  - threshold effect still has to be corrected for with new method---ACTION ITEM (GSU)
  - no difference pre vs production for B25 (since B25 preproduction tiles were reproduced)
- qualitative improvement seen
  - Stefan:  check if improvement is as expected quantitatively
    - width of distribution before PR normalization should be quadrature sum of normalized width and width of PR distribution
    - ACTION ITEM (Saif)

Shuhang Li—further studies of low energy background (see slides)
———————————————————————————————
- from comparing results with swapped cables for those channels with no background, comparing upper and lower towers, and corroborated by Dan Lis’s simulation, we conclude:
low energy background is sum of real particles (zero for upper) and electronics
- will test cable swap for upper and lower—ACTION ITEM (Dan Richford)
- what’s low energy structure like at low gain—ACTION ITEM (Dan Richford)

Hanpu Jiang—data analysis update (see slides)
————————————————————————————————
- multiplying by PR is definitely not correct
- difference in low energy background between upper and lower towers in data is also seen in simulation
- comparing tower with no noise to symmetric tower with noise shows that noise influences location of MPV
- Bill points out the sharp edge at around 250 (power of 2) in subtraction of those two towers

Ejiro—simulation update (see slides)
————————————————————————
- found bug; now simulation peak narrower than data; qualitatively similar to Dan Lis; but no direct simulation comparison yet
- comparison of upper and lower towers:  seems reasonable
- no energy distribution of muons yet

Dan Lis—simulation (verbal update)
————————————————————————
- working on
  - angular dependence of energy distribution
  - cosmics trigger

Dear All,

We’ll get together briefly tomorrow after the HCal meeting to discuss updates on the HCal muon calibration meeting:

(Zoom info below)

In addition to the usual updates I hope to get a report from GSU on the PR values, and from Zhiyan on the best option for LED data taking.

Regards,
Stefan
