Hi John
Xiaochun and Murad might have better insights. My understanding is that does require exporting the rings form the mechanical model. Another caveat/complication is that, in the G4 world, portion of the support ring is inside the HCal envelope and partially outside, which would require the ring to be split into inner/outer rings when installed in G4.
Given this is an inactive material shadowing HCal towers, it would be probably OK to implement these rings in a simplified G4 shapes approximately matching the mechanical model. Then it can be done quickly and easier to be split inside/outside HCal envelope, plus help simulation speed. We do need a volunteer to build it and I can help with advices.
Cheers
Jin

Hi Jin,
Many thanks for all this work as well as for the extensive documentation.
Given all the work done importing the HCAL geometry in GDML, I would think that the large support rings could be imported in a fairly straightforward way?
John

Dear HCal group
I am writing to bring to your attention a major change in the HCal simulation was merged this morning. A technical note is part of the pull request below: https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/pull/1679 which including magnetic field in HCal absorber, flip of the HCal to sPHENIX coordinate system, and fixing HCal envelopes
A few TODOs and cautions:
Let me know any question or suggestion too.
Cheers
Jin
