Dear all,
GSU student, Daivon Jarrell, filled in Marzia's form last week but I wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to comment on his abstract for the CEU program. Please let us know if you have any comments on his abstract copied below. The CEU submission deadline is Wed, Aug 2.
Thanks,

Title: Evaluating the Performance of the sPHENIX Hadronic Calorimeter using LEDs
Abstract:
sPHENIX
is a high-energy nuclear physics experiment located at Brookhaven National
Laboratory designed to study the properties of quark-gluon plasma, a
state of matter that existed in the early universe shortly after the Big
Bang. The experiment utilizes a complex system of detectors to measure
the various particles produced in heavy-ion collisions. The sPHENIX handronic calorimeter (HCal) is a massive instrument split into 2 parts inner and outer, which are made of scintillator tiles sandwiched between aluminum and steel plates respectively. The tiles emit light when struck by particles produced in hadronic showers induced by the plate. LEDs are employed as a diagnostic tool to test and
analyze the performance of the Hadronic Calorimeters. This poster reports on studies monitoring the behavior of the HCals
during the commissioning phase of sPHENIX using LED data which are important for
assessing the performance of the detectors and provides input for the
calibration studies.
