I have attached an updated set of slide to the agenda… As Blair suggestedI have widened the pedestal region to time bins>20 and we clearly see out of time particle (peak at time 17 instead of 6-7, see for example slide 25).
The anomalous pedestal values come from randomly stuck bits (values are ~3700 ~9800 ~11200) or out of time particles. In this run, the stuck bits are happening on random time bins for a specific handful set of channels which could be easily masked and identified with a 3000 ADC threshold in the pedestal region as shown on slide 6.
For the out of time particles what is relevant is that there are several out of time particles in one event like shown for a variety of non contiguous towers in slide 25 and 26 (in fact there were more in those events and can all be found at https://www.phenix.bnl.gov/~marzia/emc/run21518/.). It seems more like a clock glitch than albedo or secondaries.
Pedro will be back online on Friday and can help with additional studies if there are any questions.
