Dear sPHENIX IB,

I'd like to ask the IB to vote on confirmation of the following slate of members for the Spokesperson Nominating Committee:

Spokesperson Nominating Committee

Chair – Huan Zhong Huang, huang AT physics.ucla.edu

ShinIchi Esumi, esumi.shinichi.gn AT u.tsukuba.ac.jp

Ann Sickles, sickles AT illinois.edu

Ken Barish, kenneth.barish AT ucr.edu

John Haggerty, haggerty AT bnl.gov

Tom Hemmick, hemmick AT skipper.physics.sunysb.edu

Youngil Kwon, ykwon AT yonsei.ac.kr

John Lajoie, lajoie AT iastate.edu

Sevil Salur, salur AT physics.rutgers.edu

Since the IB has completed its vote and endorsed the Bylaws Committee, and since the Bylaws Committee will determine the process by which the Spokesperson(s) is chosen, the Spokesperson Committee will need to wait until the Bylaws Committee proposes the process, length of term (at least for the first spokesperson), and function of the spokesperson. Bill Zajc as Chair of the Bylaws Committee, which has been formed, has promised that to be their first item of business. In the meantime, I have asked the prospective committee members and received their approval to proceed with confirmation of the committee by the IB.

The task for the Spokesperson Committee is to identify members of the collaboration, appropriate for the task, who after their confirmation to serve can be placed on the slate of candidates for consideration by the IB and collaboration. You will note the slide prepared for the IB Meeting regarding "Spokesperson Qualities", which I have attached. The goal is to reach a slate of candidates by the time of the Collaboration Meeting, such that an election can be held shortly afterwards in December, if at all possible.

I encourage everyone to start thinking about possible spokesperson candidates.

I ask that the IB vote at

The voting will close at the end of the day on Friday, October 16.

Thanks and regards,
John
