Dear All,

I should have added that according to the proposed bylaws (the spokesperson selection part of the bylaws was approved by the IB), the nomination process will remain open until two weeks before the election. The announcement of candidates from the NC is meant to inform the IB about the status. It is not the closure of the nomination process which was not emphasized in my previous email.

We welcome more input on possible additional candidates.

  Regards,

  Huan

Dear Colleagues,

After extensive consultation with many potential candidates, the Nominating Committee (NC) is pleased to announce that Professor Gunther Roland from MIT and Dr. Dave Morrison from BNL will be the co-Spokesperson team candidate for spokesperson election of the new RHIC experiment. The scientific leadership selection will be a critical step for the experiment. The spokesperson job will be very challenging and will require huge sacrifice from their personal lives. The NC wishes to thank Gunther and Dave for their willingness to take upon the challenge.

Professor Jamie Nagle indicated that due to family reasons he will not run for the Spokesperson position this time. The NC respects his decision and also thanks Jamie for his stewardship of the collaboration, successfully overcoming many hurdles towards a construction project.

I will give a brief report about the process on behalf of the NC at the collaboration meeting this week. There will also be a session on Saturday morning when Gunther/Dave will introduce themselves and entertain questions from the collaborator.

  Regards,

  Huan

Subject: [Sphenix-ib-l] Call for nominations from the nominating committee

Dear Colleagues,

The Nominating Committee has been working under the guideline of the Spokesperson Section in the proposed Bylaws for the new collaboration. We would like to seek your nominations for Spokesperson candidates. Either a single candidate for Spokesperson or a pair of candidates for Co-spokesperson can be nominated. Self-nomination is strongly encouraged as well.

Please note that the primary function of the Nominating Committee (NC) is to ensure that we will identify on our ballot all qualified candidates who are willing to serve. The NC will not rank any candidates. If you decide to nominate someone, you do not need to confirm with the nominee his/her willingness to serve. The NC will confirm such matters with candidates before placing them on the ballot. You may send your nomination to any member of the NC.

Here is a tentative timeline that we aim to keep in order to move forward timely with the election of the leadership for the collaboration.

10/16/15 – IB approved the NC formation

10/30/15 – Spokesperson section of Bylaws presented to the IB

11/4/15 – Call for nomination to the collaboration from the Nominating Committee (NC)

12/7/2015 – The NC announces the candidates to the collaboration

12/10-11/2015 – Candidates presented at the collaboration meeting and IB approves the election procedure

12/21/2015 – Nomination Process closes

1/8/2016 or soon after -- Electronic Voting for the Spokesperson (12 weeks from the IB approval of the NC)

The Spokesperson election is arguably the most important decision for the IB and for the collaboration. We would like to urge your participation in the process by nominating candidates for the position. We thank you for your help.

  Sincerely Yours,

  The Nominating Committee:
