Postdoctoral Associate - CMS Experiment at the CERN LHC (2 openings)

The University of Notre Dame High Energy Physics Group has an immediate opening for two Post-doctoral research associates to work on the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

The CMS group at Notre Dame (Hildreth, Jessop, Lannon, Ruchti, Wayne) has played a leading role in the construction, commissioning and operation of the CMS Hadron Calorimeter, and the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) and has extensive roles in Software development, High Level Trigger (HLT) operations, and Computing. The group is also actively engaged in developing and coordinating detector upgrade projects for the High-Luminosity LHC, including the ECAL/HCAL, MIP Timing Detector (MTD), and Level 1 Track Trigger. Group members have leadership roles in CMS physics analyses with interests in Higgs coupling measurements (ttH and anomalous Higgs decays), top physics (including searches for new physics using effective field theory techniques), searches for exotic particles and electroweak physics. The successful candidate is expected to play an important role in the analysis of CMS data and make significant contributions to the group's ongoing efforts. One of the two postdoc positions will focus on top quark physics and trigger while the other position will focus on Higgs physics and ECAL/HCAL operations and upgrades.

The group is looking for an outstanding applicant who has obtained, or is about to obtain, a Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For inquiries, please contact Profs. Colin Jessop (cjessop AT nd.edu) or Kevin Lannon (klannon AT nd.edu).

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications to which they have made significant contributions, a description of research interests and skills, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent via the Academic Jobs Online website at the given link. The description of research interests should make clear which focus (Top/trigger vs Higgs/ECAL/HCAL) the candidate prefers.

The University of Notre Dame is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to building a culturally diverse workplace. We strongly encourage applications from female and minority candidates and others that will enhance our community. Moreover, Notre Dame prohibits discrimination against veterans or disabled qualified individuals, and requires affirmative action by covered contractors to employ and advance veterans and qualified individuals with disabilities in compliance with 41 CFR 60-741.5(a) and 41 CFR 60-300.5(a).
