Multiple Asst./Assoc. Prof. Positions in Exp. Particle Physics and Astrophysics – Florida Institute of Technology
Full Ad: Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Physics and Space Sciences (Aug 2022)
The Department of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in Physics & Space Sciences with an expected start date of August 2022.
Appointments can be considered at either the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. We are interested in candidates who are committed to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels while conducting cutting edge, externally funded research in one or more of the following areas: astrophysics, astrobiology, experimental particle physics, or atmospheric physics. A candidate in astrophysics or astrobiology is expected to strengthen Florida Tech’s offerings in space and ground-based research. A candidate in particle physics would have an interest in collider physics, including dark matter, and astroparticle physics experiments. A candidate in atmospheric physics would forge links with our Meteorology program either in understanding the atmosphere of the Earth or those of other planets.Applicants shall demonstrate a strong research background and plans for externally funded research. Candidates are required to hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy or a closely related field.Information about the Department of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences and the College of Engineering and Science can be found at http://floridatech.edu/apss/.The department has 31 faculty, over 550 undergraduate students, and more than 110 graduate students. Florida Tech is the founding member of the Southeastern Association for Research in Astronomy, established the first undergraduate astrobiology program in the US, and our faculty have a strong history of successful research using a variety of ground-based and space-based facilities. Our high-energy physics group is a member of the CMS collaboration at CERN, and our atmospheric electricity group are world leaders, with a record that includes the discovery of X-ray and gamma-rays from lightning. Candidates with computational needs for their research and interested in artificial intelligence/machine learning applications will have access to a newly commissioned high-performance computing cluster equipped with GPU accelerators. We are at the heart of the vibrant aerospace community on the U.S. Space Coast, which is centered on NASA Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Space Force Base and is experiencing dynamic growth based around space and aerospace. The Space Coast is nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, has a modest cost of living, is served by the Melbourne Orlando International Airport, and is consistently ranked as one of the best and safest places to live in the U.S.To apply, send a single PDF document to apss-search AT fit.edu containing a cover letter, CV, a statement of research experience and interests, a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, and contact information for at least three references. Strong candidates will articulate a significant collaborative research program that meets the mission of the department. A successful candidate will demonstrate understanding of or experience working with diverse and underrepresented academic populations. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of our academic community through teaching and service. Positions will be open until filled, but applications received by February 1, 2022 will be given full consideration.Florida Tech is an equal opportunity employer. The department is building a diverse faculty committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. Applicants from underrepresented groups, such as women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply. For further information, interested candidates may contact:Prof. Marcus Hohlmann (HEP), hohlmann AT fit.edu orProf. David Fleming, Head of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences, dfleming AT fit.edu
