The department of nuclear physics of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) invites applications for a 24-month post-doctoral position based in Saclay, France.
The nucleon structure group is involved in several facilities around accelerator-based experiments. The group is composed of ten permanent staff physicists focusing on the 3D structure of the nucleon at Jefferson Lab, CERN and BNL.
The successful candidate will participate in the sPHENIX experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and will conduct data analysis of pp/pA collisions. In parallel a strong involvement in physics simulations and detector R&D for the Electron-Ion Collider project within the EPIC collaboration is expected.
The CEA-Saclay also has a long expertise in the development of Micromegas detectors. The latest construction is the TPOT detector for the sPHENIX experiment. The successful candidate is expected to get involved in the operations and maintenance of TPOT and participate in the ongoing R&D effort for the development of a low material-budget 2D readout Micromegas tracker for the EIC.
More information about the Department of Nuclear Physics, the sPHENIX experiment and the EIC project can be found on the corresponding webpages.
The position will be based in France but will require regular travel to the US. Other foreign travel is likely to be required.
Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in Physics with specialization in high energy nuclear physics, particle physics, or related area required. Demonstrated experience in data analysis required. Research interest in gaseous detectors and cold QCD is desired.
Skill related to the analysis of large-scale datasets, knowledge of MC generators and detector simulations and strong software skills in e.g. c++ and python for scientific computing are highly desired.
Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Full consideration will be given to applications submitted by June 2023. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae together with a short statement of physics interests and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to Dr Audrey Francisco (audrey.francisco AT cea.fr). For more information, please contact us and we will gladly provide further details about the position.
