Dear Colleagues:
I am a faculty member at the University of Virginia and my research is
focused primarily on the nucleon spin structure and test of the Standard
Model using electron scattering at Jefferson Lab. I am looking for a new
postdoc for my group. The official announcement is given below that includes
the application link.
Please share the information with potential candidates. The position is open
until filled.
Thanks,
Xiaochao
The Physics Department at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a
Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of Experimental
Medium-Energy Nuclear and Particle Physics. The group’s research interest is
on studies of the nucleon structure, the strong interaction, and precision
measurements of parity-violation electron scattering. The group is involved
in a number of ongoing and near-future experiments in Halls A, B, and C of
the nearby Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). The
longer-term future of the group will be the SoLID experiments planned for
JLab’s Hall A, as well as physics at the electron ion collider (EIC).
The position will involve data analysis of a number of recently completed and
ongoing JLab experiments and detector beam tests, supporting JLab operation,
development of new physics ideas in the form of experimental proposals, and
preparation for SoLID experiments. The successful candidate will be stationed
at JLab. The position will be for one year; however, the appointment may be
renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available
funding and satisfactory performance.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate must hold a PhD in Physics at the time of appointment, and
preferably be within 3 years of completion of PhD. The candidate must have a
background in experimental nuclear and/or particle physics, above-average
communication skill and appropriate writing skills, and be willing to work
with a large collaboration. Preferred qualification includes a strong desire
to learn and to lead, and be able to guide both graduate and undergraduate
students in research on a daily basis.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Apply online at

and attach a cover letter, a CV/resume, and a brief description of
research interest and philosophy. The CV and/or the research statement should
include a description of past accomplishment in data analysis, hardware work,
simulation, dissemination of results (publications and talks), and
demonstration of creativity and innovation if applicable. Applicants should
arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent [through the
application website].
Please note that multiple documents can be uploaded in the box.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review of applications will begin on July 8, 2023.
Applications received by the end of July 2023 will receive full
