---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Job description:The Department of Physics at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in experimental physics in the area of experimental high-energy particle physics that overlaps with quantum sciences in detector technology and/or information processing.
The search is focused on early career faculty at the assistant or associate professor rank. Successful candidate is expected to become a member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN to join the existing efforts of the CMS group at UB, with options to pursue other interests such as smaller experiments, detector R+D, or future collider efforts. Current efforts of the CMS group include work on silicon tracker detectors, as well as reconstruction, calibration, and identification of hadronic jets. We engage in a broad program of searches for physics beyond the standard model, as well as precision measurements of standard model processes. Future efforts will also include work on new collider activities. The HEP experimental group works in close collaboration with our theory colleagues in the department and data scientists from Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences at UB.
The Department of Physics is entering a period of significant growth. This current position is part of a multi-year, multi-faculty recruitment effort in quantum science and technology supported by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the State of New York. This search is part of that effort, allowing for potential collaborations in quantum sciences.
University at Buffalo is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and, in keeping with our commitment, welcomes all to apply including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
