Job posting – The Medium Energy Group in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory-Job Description
The Medium Energy Group in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites applications for a junior staff position in experimental medium energy nuclear physics. We welcome all applicants with a background in experimental medium or high energy nuclear/particle physics.
We aim to appoint at the rank of Assistant Physicist (Argonne’s equivalent of a tenure-track Assistant Professor), anticipated to start as early as September 2024.
The Medium Energy Group currently consists of eight staff members, two engineers, and several postdocs and students. Our program includes:
- Electron scattering experiments at Jefferson Lab in Hall A, B, and C, including CLAS12 and SoLID.
- Developing the scientific and experimental program for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC).
- Drell-Yan experiments at Fermilab and the MUSE experiment at PSI.
Additionally, we have a comprehensive program in detector technology, focusing on super-conducting nanowire detectors and pixelized MCP-PMTs. We are leading the design and construction of the Barrel Imaging Calorimeter for ePIC at the EIC, collaborating closely with the Theory and Accelerator R&D groups in the Physics Division, as well as with the High-Energy Physics and Material Science Divisions
