Announcement:

We are building a new sPHENIX email list to connect with software update/discussions on GitHub. Members of the current 'sphenix-software-l AT lists.bnl.gov' list will be automatically subscribed. Expect to roll out in 1-2 days.

Software update: Jin Huang

Jin: Working on connecting GitHub with sPHENIX software email list for three reasons,

·       Notify user pending and applied software updates

·       Engage more discussions

·       Archive discussion at BNL email list archive

Tried with a test email list at BNL. A few tricks, now it works well. Expect to apply to the sPHENIX GitHub repository and sPHENIX email list very soon

Chris: suggest use a separated email list other than 'sphenix-software-l AT lists.bnl.gov', so user could have better control over subscription and leave major discussion in sphenix-software-l.

Action Item [Jin]: apply for a new sPHENIX email list and connect it to sPHENIX GitHub repository. Include all current member of 'sphenix-software-l AT lists.bnl.gov' to the new list

Also new pull request 104, see next talk.

Standardized calorimetry QA: Jin Huang

Jin: as first step of three planned updates, implemented QA module for calorimeter subsystems to inspect each step of simulation via pull request #104: https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/pull/104 . Also setup generic structure of QA modules in this pull request.

Many in the meeting:  suggest a few style updates

·       Page 8: right side energy distribution plot

o   should use logy style (Jin).

o   Try logx style too (Xiaochun).

o   Remove “normalized” in the Y-axis label (Vera)

·       Page 10: left bottom timing distribution should be normalized with bin size (Dave/Dennis)

Action Item [Jin]: Fix accordingly.

Conclusion:

Suggestions welcomed at this early stage. Plan to merge if no further suggestions in a few days and suggest macro setup to use these modules in production/analysis macros.

Request [to Chris]: a new production to match current software version (with shower implemented)

Verbal updates

EMCal Calibration: Vera Loggins

Working on an analysis module for EMCal calibration. Expect updates next week.

HCal prototype: Chris, Xiaochun and Murad

·       Chris is working on a new HCal prototype implementation in Geant4 based on full HCal code.

·       Will be good to cross check with Xiaochun’s version. Murad plan to do so once the new code is ready on a development branch

·       After implementation in Geant4, still expect lots of work to simulate the test beam run plan in G4 productions.

Read prototype data (Jin/John)

·       Good to practice with data from the last test run and cosmic tests

·       Manpower needed to exercise reading PRDF from the last prototype with the current analysis software.

Jet simulation sample:

John: good to have a sample of jets on disk

Jin: here is 250 jetty events simulated with current version of software and can be read-in via the GitHub version of macro with readhit=true

/phenix/u/jinhuang/work/sPHENIX/simulation/macros2/G4sPHENIXCells_250jets25GeV.root

Indexing production output files:

John: production data files location are hard to find. Currently distributed via Emails.

Chris: we have bits and pieces to put production file inventory into database.

Need manpower to put together file database
