Dear collaborators,
The RCF is setting up a web server for sPHENIX this week. However, they are
only setting up the hardware, it’s up to us to populate this new server with
captivating and useful content. I’m sure there must be people in the
collaboration who have talent and experience setting up a modern-day web
site. Is the current "best practice” to use a content management system?
Which one? How would we, as collaborators, interact with that? Would we
publish pages to the web server? I come from the web era of hand-edited
HTML, so you certainly don’t want me doing too much here.
This is a chance to create something very useful for your collaborators –
please speak up and let’s talk.
Even if you’re not a web design guru, I’m sure you have opinions about what
constitutes a good web site for a collaboration like ours. Post links to
some examples and/or some ideas and let’s see what develops. Here, I’ll go
first – with the LIGO announcement, I found myself at the web site for SXS
(Simulating eXtreme Spacetimes): http://www.black-holes.org/ Maybe it’s a
bit cartoony (or not), but I found it to be clean and inviting. There’s a
search field right on the front page and links for the public and for
researchers.
Cheers,
Dave
