Hello sPHENIXians,

I wanted to forward the message below from the Lab Director of Fermilab Nigel Locker about the critical role of an "open, inclusive, diverse, cooperative, and supportive environment."    It is quite striking and positive to hear this statement from Nigel, somewhat in contrast to no such message that I have seen from Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Sincerely,

Jamie

Dear colleagues,

We are aware that this may be a challenging time for members of the Fermilab community. As the laboratory’s director, deputy directors, and chief operating officer, we reaffirm our commitment to an open, inclusive, diverse, cooperative, and supportive environment. We remind you that there is no excuse for, or willingness to tolerate, uncivil forms of communication at Fermilab.

We expect our employees, users, contractors, visitors, and guests to treat each other with respect regardless of race, color, gender, religion, sexual preference, or nationality. This applies equally to interactions on the Fermilab site, and at experimental installations, conferences, and meetings off site. We also expect every member of the Fermilab community to be proactive in facilitating a safe environment for all, particularly for underrepresented minorities and immigrants. There are no exceptions.

If you become aware of a situation that does not support an inclusive, safe environment at Fermilab or at a Fermilab-supported experiment or event off site, we want to know about it immediately. Please email or call any or all of us and we will promptly respond:

Nigel Locker, director (lockyer AT fnal.gov; ext. 6723)

Joe Lykken, deputy director (lykken AT fnal.gov, ext. 8422)

Chris Mossey, deputy director for LBNF (cmossey AT fnal.gov, ext. 6444)

Tim Meyer, chief operating officer (meyertim AT fnal.gov, ext. 6650)

Regards,

Nigel, Joe, Chris and Tim
