Software update

·        https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/macros/pull/49

o   Require max four missing-layers in track finding, bring back many clusters in low multiplicity track finding.

o   Need to double check tracking efficiency in high multiplicity environment with this tuning

·       Many update on forward tracking and Pythia6 by John Lajoie

o   See updates from his study: https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=2897

·       https://github.com/sPHENIX-Collaboration/coresoftware/pull/247

o   GenFit memory management by Haiwang Yu

o   Details see next talk

o   Under review, suggested to use unique_pointer than manually manage delete of pointers.

Truth Pattern Reco Module and Test - Haiwang Yu

Slide 2: memory leak fix in GenFit2 Kalman filter module

Slide 3: overview of tracking data flow

Slide 4:  motivation of an ideal pattern recognition tool

·       Benchmark and crosscheck for realistic pattern recognition by decoupling the clustering and track fitting from pattern recognition

·       Help tuning GenFit2 for electron track fitting

Slide 5: flow chart for the  ideal pattern recognition

Slide 6: initial cross check with bench mark momentum resolution set by Christof using LiC simulation

Christof: cool to show they can match. Need to check how track finding affected the resolution.

Haiwang: ladder geometry may be used in the data points on this plot

Christof: Toy simulation used material thickness in the ladder geometry. Weird residual found in current ladder geometry, which could affected the full tracking + Kalman fit results.

Christof & Veronica : is there example macro to use this new module for testing.

Haiwang: will merge into nightly build. Timeframe of pull requst is about one to two days.

Christof: does the sPHENIX GenFit2 moudle have all functionality of GenFit2? Does it provide track propagation stage.

Haiwang: Yes. Currently provide track fitting and track propagation.

Christof: with track propagation, we may be able to implement a full tracking with pattern recognition

Haiwang: worry about TPC cost of full Kalman instead of cylindrical approximations.

Christof: LHC experience show full Kalman-based tracking provide best performance. Reference material available to show pitfalls to avoid in implementing Kalman-based track finding.

Christof: GenFit2 provide a few alternative track fitting method beyond default Kalman filtering.

Haiwang: initially tried few other method.

Production preparation - Chris

Suggesting new production of inclusive jets in HIJING

Jin: HF-jet group is planning production of HIJING simulation with full Geant4, including tracking and calorimetry. 200k event is required in order to obtain a smooth performance curve.

Chris: that will occupy computer resource for considerable amount of time.

Jin: need to test initial setup before proposing for produciton.

Tracking discussion

Chris: Is that possible to start TPC tracking with a subset of layers in critial radius in order to speed it up with the current global patter recognition method (G4HoughTransformTPC)

Christof: possible. Based on LHC experience, most improvement was from algorithmic improvement fine tuning based on Kalman-based track finding. Improvement after tuning is about factor of few.
