Dear Collaborators,
Thanks to Jin Huang for taking notes at last Friday's general meeting!
Cheers,
Dave and Gunther
sPHENIX collaboration news - Dr. David Morrison (BNL), Prof. Gunther
Roland (MIT)
Coming events:
· Pre-meetings on June 12 (still to be finalized)
· Juniors’ pizza and beer social event on June 13 and
collaboration dinner on June 14
· Institutional board meeting on June 14 – agenda to be circulated
soon
· AC meeting June 15-16
Please volunteer speaker or self for sPHENIX speaker for AUM jet workshop
EC meeting:
· Jamie Nagle worked up projections for a five-year run plan
(2022-2026).
· A nominal run plan provides a basis for consistent physics
projections
Purdue, Saclay, CCNU have expressed interest in joining the collaboration.
sPHENIX Project Update - Edward O'Brien (BNL)
Project status
· Extraordinary Project rate for sPHENIX approved by BNL and BHSO
· We’re expecting to have the OPC accounts open within the week
· Irina has started the weekly meetings with the BNL-supported P6
consultant
Review dates
· sPHENIX CD-1 “Dry Run” with BNL internal Review committee (Jun 5-6)
· sPHENIX MVTX Director’s review (Jul 10-11)
· sPHENIX Director’s Review. (Aug 2-4)
o DOE is not sending observer, expect BNL take responsibility
· DOE-OPA CD-1 Review (Week of Nov 6)
Large (19) set of documents being produced for the CD-1 reviews
Integration Task Force- Dr. Mickey Chiu (Brookhaven National Lab)
Summary: Report completed from the task force to collect all the
pertinent integration information associated with the Inner detectors,
the TPC, INTT, MVTX (formerly MAPS) and Min Bias Detector:
https://docdb.sphenix.bnl.gov/cgi-bin/private/ShowDocument?docid=80
Findings summarized on slide 6-7. Conceptual designs in slides 8+.
Discussions:
· INTT and MVTX need to be changed to be compatible with each
other. Options under consideration to resolve this issue.
o Jamie: What setup the length of INTT lines?
o Tony: active area is set to match |eta|<1 coverage for |z|<10 cm.
· Clearance of MVTX to beam pipe is tight (1.5 mm radial)
· Christine/ Mickey: suggest check with compatibility with
fsPHENIX and EIC physics
Forward LOI - . Nils Feege (Stony Brook University), Prof. Christine
Aidala (Michigan)
Summary: Forward instrumentation LOI is being developed.
Physics goals:
· Study spin-spin and spin-momentum correlations in QCD
· Search for evidence of gluon saturation
· Explore early times in A+A collisions
Tracking design:
· Thin gap chamber is considered as backup option for the outer
tracking region.
· Suggest contact Saclay to bring possibility of micromegas tracker
· Conclusion is expand section on backup tracking detector
Preliminary performance plot preview page 9+.
Suggest update style with sPHENIX style macro.
Tracking Update -Dr. Anthony Frawley (Florida State University), Haiwang
Yu (NMSU)
Summary: progress from the taskforce on the new tracking software,
including detailed detector simulation, progressive pattern recognition.
Slide 7: already working well in single track simulations.
Dave: Why efficiency no longer drop in high pT?
Haiwang: working well in low multiplicity environment now as on this
plot. Not yet shown for high multiplicity environment.
Slide 8: significantly improvement in time (8 min) for central HIJING
simulation.
Dave/Tony: much better momentum resolution is produced by this new
tracking software. Also nice progress in expanding number of
collaborators knowing the inner working of the tracking software.
