Dear collaborators,

Last week's NPP program advisory committee meeting wrapped up on Friday
with a short closeout. The agenda and presentations can be found here:

https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3125

In addition to commentary related to ongoing data analyses and data
taking priorities in the very near future, the PAC communicated several
points focused on sPHENIX. From notes taken at the closeout:

Regarding the modest forward upgrade:
Commends sPHENIX and STAR for their LOIs, importance of the case was
clear, noted that the capabilities would be beneficial to A+A too.

Concerning Drell-Yan measurements: the highest priority is completing
STAR analysis. Future polarized p+p is important – a vigorous spin
physics program at RHIC is essential.

Regarding sPHENIX:
PAC commends sPHENIX on CD-0 approval.
Recognizes the strength of new groups joining the collaboration.
Notes good progress on prototyping of detectors, and on limiting
detector and technology choices.
Notes good progress with realistic tracking software, understanding
rates, backgrounds.
Notes that a multi-year run plan was presented.
Comments that the physics case remains strong, further refinement should
continue.

This all seems very positive. Between the two sPHENIX presentations and
the MoFU LOI, we succeeded in getting across the key points of progress,
of plans, and of concerns to the PAC. Christine Aidala's talk about the
LOI was well-received and there was a lot of back-and-forth with the PAC
in connection with all of the presentations. We'll digest more detailed
feedback as it becomes available.

Regards,
Dave and Gunther
