Dear Collaborators,

We'd like to pass along some encouraging words we've received from the
BNL ALD Berndt Mueller. The collaboration and the project have been
working very hard and very effectively and it's good to know that this
effort is visible and appreciated. Let's keep pushing toward first data!

Regards,
Dave and Gunther

Dear Gunther and Dave:

This may be a good time to provide you with a brief update out goings-on
with our efforts to move sPHENIX from the conceptual to the realization
stage. Between the sPHENIX document review in June, the MVTX Director's
review in July, and the sPHENIX CD-1 Director's review in August, it has
been a busy summer for all of us, but especially for the sPHENIX
collaboration and project team.  I recognize and appreciate the effort
that it has taken to prepare for these important reviews.  The material
presented to the review panels enabled them to provide informed and
constructive recommendations that are helping move the project
forward.  While they may sometimes appear as a burden, these reviews are
a truly reflection of the intense attention afforded to sPHENIX by both,
the Laboratory and DOE.

As we are approaching the critical CD-1 review of sPHENIX by DOE next
May, we will need the continued support from the collaboration for the
preparations by the project team. We are also looking forward to the
cold, full-field test of the sPHENIX magnet near the end of 2017. It is
also rewarding that the collaboration has grown significantly over the
past year with the addition of a number of very strong institutions to
the ranks of its members. A great deal of progress has been made over
the past fiscal year, steadily moving sPHENIX closer to realization. The
collaboration had its big share in this progress – the collaboration
really matters! –  and I would like to use this opportunity to extend
the sincere thanks of the Laboratory to its members around the world.

Best regards

Berndt
