Hi,
In case you are on-site at BNL tomorrow (Friday) at 2:30, there will be a site-wide shelter-in-place exercise. Please contact Mariette so she has a list of those who will be here at the time. Those who are in Bldg 510 should report to the Large Seminar Room, and report to Mariette so that she can check off that you are safe.
Mickey

I’ve been asked to formulate a list of the PHENIX people who will be at BNL on Friday when the sirens begin (2:30pm). Please send me your name no later than the COB Tuesday. Once the drill begins and we are sheltered-in-place, you must check in with me. Each person listed must be accounted for. If for some reason you are onsite at the time of the drill and cannot (see the list of justifications below) check in, you are required to get advanced approval by filling out the attached Exemption form.See Achim’s detailed message below as well as the Information sheet attached.Thank you in advance for your full cooperation.Mariette~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~On behalf of Achim FranzTo Physics Group Administrators:There will be a Shelter in Place exercise this coming Friday, May 18th, at 2:30 p.m.:As part of the continuing emergency preparedness for the BNL employees, guests, and users the Office of Emergency Management is conducting a site wide Shelter-in-Place exercise scheduled for May 18, 2018 at 2:30 PM. This exercise will demonstrate the ability of Laboratory personal to receive emergency communication messages and to safely and effectively shelter indoors. DOE Order 151.1 D requires BNL to conduct protective action drills commensurate with the hazards planning basis for the site. Based on the hazards existing at BNL this site wide shelter-in-place exercise will fulfill the requirements demonstrating the ability of the BNL populace to take protective actions during an emergency. For this, as the Physics Department Local Emergency Coordinator (LEC), I need your help. You will need to make a list of people from your group who are on site during that exercise, i.e. not on travel, and should come to their shelter in place when they hear the sirens and the phone announcement. If they have to be somewhere else and are unable to come to their shelter in place, such as taking shifts, an exempt form needs to be filled out and returned to me by Wednesday, May 16:Justification of activities will be need to approved on the exemption request. The exemption request form and the exercise information sheet are attached. Please use the following guidelines.Ø Personnel that provide security and protection of DOE programs and facilities;Ø Key experimental systems or experiments that if left unattended would incur significant irrecoverable damage or losses; andØ Operations that may threaten health, safety, and/or the environment if left unattended. You will need to know who is on site, on travel or working in another building during that time. This is basically like a fire drill, except that we know about it before hand, and similar to a fire drill, I’m expected to check with all of you that all people in your group are accounted for. Thanks,Achim FranzPhysics Dept., 510A510-1-43, x4750
