sPHENIX is a new detector at RHIC.

    Dear Colleagues,
      We held the close out for the DOE CD-1/CD-3A review of
    sPHENIX today and I am very happy to report that the committee
    has recommended that we proceed to CD-1/CD-3A after
    responding to three modest action items concerning
    risk and contingency calculations, and the funding profile.

    The committee  stated how impressed they were by the preparation of 
the Project team,
    Level 2 Managers and all of the speakers in general. We generated 
44 separate
    documents for the review in addition to  giving over 40 
presentations to the committee.

     It was a very positive outcome.

     The L2 and L3 Managers, engineers, technicians, project experts, 
admins and the
    sPHENIX project management team all deserve a great deal of thanks for
    the work they did these past months to bring this all to a 
successful outcome.
    We are all very pleased with the results. Congratulations.
