Hi Tony,
A comprehensive and ambitious presentation! I have a few comments:
First, here's a link to the PAC presentation I gave. You might mine it
for some material: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/4744/
Sometimes, describing the resolution vs temperature plot to motivate the
sPHENIX program can take a lot of time. Depends. You've got a little
typo too (s/GQP/QGP/).
Same caveat concerning slides 3, 4. It can sometimes takes people a
long time to communicate the clear points contained in that diagram. My
only advice is to think carefully about how you want to describe it.
On slide 5, you could generalize "heavy quark tagged jets" to heavy
flavor. The studies led by Sasha Lebedev and by Xin Dong established
our capabilities for D and B meson measurements. You come back to that
on slides 19-21, so probably good to foreshadow that here.
slide 6: grab the experiment diagram from my PAC talk, if only because
"MAPS" isn't any longer a thing in sPHENIX, it's become MVTX.
slide 7: might add some pictures to emphasize the reality of sPHENIX.
Slide 8 in my PAC talk has some material.
slide 19-21: I'd be careful with the title of these slides. The subject
isn't just b-jets, but also lower pT open heavy flavor. For instance,
on slide 21, the left plots are for topologically reconstructed D and B
mesons, while the right ones are for b-tagged jets.
slide 24: you should grab the run plan from my PAC slides, because Jamie
altered the run plan table so it's in terms of "Year-N" instead of
specific calendar years. In fact, the version you've got (the one I
showed last year) is already wrong by a year. In addition, I'd even
modify the slide I showed the PAC to show that the AuAu statistics are
accumulated in year-1, year 3 and year-5.
slide 28: grab a new version of the world map – it was pointed out to me
that until I fixed it yesterday the markers on the map severely
underrepresented our Chinese collaborating institutions. (I had to go
back and put GPS coordinates in for each institution to get them to
appear on the map – who knew?)
Your talk ends with the world map, which can be nice, though another way
to go would be to highlight the very successful and recent CD-1/3A
review again (you may need to tell people what that means), that we're
hopeful that this will turn into a DOE approval later this summer. If
CD-3A approval comes though, we'd start buying millions of dollars of
material for sPHENIX. There are lots of other hopeful things occurring
– we're discussing ways with our collaborators to realize the full EMCal
acceptance, in serious discussions about how to realize the MVTX, and
exploring ways to get the inner HCal instrumented.
... and that reminds me, you might put in a slide (perhaps grab one from
Christine Aidala's PAC talk) about sPHENIX as the basis for an EIC detector.
Cheers,
Dave
