Hi Christine,

Our group has an opening for a postdoc position to work on polarized SeaQuest  and MUSE.

I would be grateful if you could bring this to the attention of your collaborators at RHIC, as well as to excellent candidates you may know.

Thanks,

Wolfgang

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position in experimental nuclear Physics: University of Michigan

The University of Michigan medium energy group invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate Position. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join our ongoing Drell-Yan effort with the SeaQuest collaboration at Fermilab and our MUSE effort with the MUSE collaboration at PSI in Switzerland. SeaQuest has completed its running with unpolarized liquid hydrogen and deuterium targets and is now setting up to run with polarized targets to study the u_bar and d_bar Sivers functions and their connection to the orbital angular momentum of light sea quarks. The successful applicant will be involved in the installation and running of the polarized frozen ammonia target and play a leading role in the analysis of the data. There is also an opportunity to participate in the MUSE experiment at PSI that aims to resolve the unexplained large discrepancies of the proton charge radius measurements made with muonic hydrogen and electron-proton scattering. The successful applicant will be involved in the running of the liquid hydrogen target and play a leading role in the analysis of the data.

Although the successful candidate will be stationed at the University of Michigan, frequent travel and extended stays at Fermilab and periodic travel to PSI is expected. Previous experience with cryogenic targets and especially with polarized solid targets will be advantageous.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D.  in experimental nuclear or particle physics. The position is available starting 8/1/2018, or at a later, mutually agreed date. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable by mutual agreement for up to three years. The University of Michigan is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.

Applicants should send a cover letter, a CV, and have three letters of recommendation sent to:

Wolfgang Lorenzon

Email: lorenzon AT umich.edu

Review of applications will begin August 1, and continue until the position has been filled.

Application deadline: September  1, 2018
