Dear sPHENIXlers,
you probably have seen the headlines this morning that 773 million
unique email password pairs have been (and still are) up for grabs.
https://www.wired.com/story/collection-one-breach-email-accounts-passwords/
The bottom line is that someone has discovered a cache of more than 2.7
billion email/password pairs, which, after weeding out duplicates and
obvious invalids, comes to 773 million unique such pairs.
What's most disturbing: from the article -
> ... all of these records were sitting not in some dark web backwater, but
> on one of the most popular cloud storage sites—until it got taken down—and
> then on a public hacking site. They weren’t even for sale; they were just
> available for anyone to take.
>
In the article are all the relevant links to check if your email
addresses are in there. My bnl.gov email, for example, is.
BNL people may get specific instructions from ITD, but it doesn't hurt
to check right away.
Go and change some passwords... and please distribute this to your peers.
Martin
