Hi Justin

Alas, my students this summer are working on JETSCAPE, but in case anyone else finds this useful, I gave a brief introduction to heavy ion physics undergrads and recorded it.  The videos and slides are here

Hi I thought this should be obvious, but just in case: of course this

Subject: Summer projects on sPHENIX & Workshop Poll : Software,
Calibrations, etc.

Hello Sphenix,

We anticipate some new folks, especially graduate and undergraduate
students to be joining sphenix this summer and we at the same time have a
number of areas with a keen need for help on various projects related to
software, calibrations, simulations, etc. As an example see presentations in
various forums like the general meeting related to our calibrations task
force-
-there are many tasks with a short scope matching well to summer projects--
and I'm sure there many more in other groups. To help with this situation we
are planning to hold a "SPHENIX Summer Projects Workshop". This will be a
~one day, virtual, workfest-like collection of sphenix tutorials, physics
introductions, and updates aimed at those new to sphenix and others
working on software, computing, and detector projects. The purpose is to
provide a focal point for getting summer projects on sphenix underway.
Given the approach of the Hard Probes conference, we thought trying to
hold it sooner than that conference would not be very popular, so for now
we are trying to set a day for this the week immediately after Hard Probes
June ~8-12.

Perhaps we will coordinate this a little bit globally more soon (stay tuned
for
more emails on the subject), but for starters, in order to help us pick the
best day, anyone who might have some interest in attending or having their
group members attend, please fill out the following whenisgood.net poll:

https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://whenisgood.net/x4i74rk__;!!P4SdNyxKAPE!Q0hPJOC7h2VVXvH_kV3XuOH73lrAvI09ou6yqSsDHFgpSjO8DlUNiZbPR-iW-aRyNvXkBw$

Please choose which days would work best for your schedule, and feel free
to send me feedback on suggestions related to this idea--especially if your
group has an interest in helping sphenix accomplish some tasks this summer.
(Please note, we are requesting you at least include your institution name,
probably first and last name would be helpful.)
