Dear colleagues,

       It is our pleasure to announce the three-day Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS) ad hoc Workshop “Opportunities with Heavy Flavor at the EIC”. The Workshop will take place on-line November 4-6, 2020 with approximately ½ day of talks and discussion per day. The sessions will be held 10:00am – 3:30pm Eastern Standard Time to accommodate multiple time zones and speakers and participants form the Americas, Europe and Asia.

      The Electron Ion Collider (EIC) has recently received mission need approval from the US Department of Energy. The international community is working to refine and expand its physics program. Production and propagation of long-lived heavy subatomic particles is a unique and critical part of the EIC research portfolio. It is both important and timely to have an expert level discussion on heavy flavor production, its role in determining nucleon and nuclear structure, and the physics of hadronization and final-state interactions. The EIC community will build upon lessons learned from HERA, RHIC and the LHC, and construct detectors optimized for heavy flavor measurements.
