MDC preparation - All

Thanks to Cameron, the analysis module based on KFParticle is user-friendly. We call for volunteers to look into diverse channels of HF final states to be produced in the MDC simulation sample.

New volunteers:

  • Ming Liu (LANL): B-meson full reconstruction. Expect a couple of hundred event samples for a few exclusive B decay channels at BR=10^-3 level, for which MDC is suitable for the start of an exploration.
  • For further increase stat. in the rarer higher pT region, expect future runs with an enhanced sampling of higher q^hat bins.
Han-sheng Li (Purdue): Xie Wei suggests Han-sheng look into B->D decay channel
  • Cameron: KF particle example configuration includes B->D+pi exclusive reco which can be a start point

Pythia8/HepMC sample preparation:

  • Long: tuned Pythia8 on 500GeV correlation study. May apply to 200 GeV too
  • Sanghoon: checked charged particle yield, eta, distribution. Found CTeq6L + default MPI may work better

TODO: we plan to discuss Pythia tuning from Long and Sanghoon in the next TG meeting. With their work, we plan to pick a Pythia8 configuration for MDC, which brings us to complete the preMDC tasks.

Timeline, planning for MDC:

  • Camelia: MDC data arriving Jan. Presentation/wrap up in Feb (tentative). Continued analysis after.
  • Camelia: welcome input in the arrangement for the MDC workfest

Slide 9 - post-MDC b jet samples:

Hideki: in the b-jet sample, we would need an enhanced signal sample for the charm and bottom signal for ML training

Jin: suggest running Pythia8 qhat ~ 7 GeV and truth jet pT > 15 GeV to sample for pT>15 GeV jets

Upsilon use:

  • Cameron: can apply PID requirement B->DPi
  • Camelia: suggest Upsilon group to develop eID-based track selection. Then we could use Cameron's HF analysis module for Upsilon resonance reconstruction and background rejection.

TODO: Cameron plans to introduce the KFParticle package in the next Upsilon group meeting (Thu 9AM)

B_s - Zhaozhong

Summary: update on B_s fast simulation validation. Applied electron ID to Bs->JPsi + Phi analysis. Need further follow up offline at https://chat.sdcc.bnl.gov/sphenix/channels/hf-bs

Slide 4:

Jin: please cut on reco DCA and not the truth DCA for track selection as truth DCA is not observed.

Slide 5:

Jin: First Mother is not very useful as it trace down to the hard parton collision or the di-quark final states.

Slide 8:

Jin: please update the x-axis typo which should be the last mother

Jin: the purpose of Pythia8 sample?

Zhaozhong: for reproducing the correlated background

Hideki: suggest work with the Upsilon group to implement the electron fast simulation

Subject: [Nov 16 Monday 7PM ET] bi-weekly heavy flavor topical group meeting

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder that we will have our next HF topical group meeting on Nov 16 Monday 7PM ET. And we will continue to use the ZOOM meeting this week.

The agenda will include:

- Follow up on Mock Data Challenge (MDC) for HF TG: All

In particular, many of the MDC analysis would be quite friendly to new analyzers. Therefore, we would welcome broader participation which will be discussed in the meeting.

- B_s update : Zhaozhong

We look forward to talking to you all at the meeting.

Best regards,

Hideki & Jin
