Hi folks,

as announced previously on Tuesday May 4th the old nx service (nx01/nx02/nx06 and nx07) will be deprecated. Please follow the instructions for the new nx service:

https://www.sdcc.bnl.gov/resources/services/nomachine-nx

The new service uses otp tokens instead of ssh tunnels and you will need the updated client for this (an old client will just hang when trying to connect to the new server). The client can be downloaded from the link in the documentation (go to the bottom of the page whee it says "NoMachine Enterprise Client" and download the client for your OS). The new client also supports the old ssh tunnel sessions, so you can still connect to your old sessions (which will be terminated on Tuesday).

The OTP token business itself does not require a smart phone (though that's probably how you want to run this) - the page linked to the TOTP enrollment process contains links to browser extensions providing this. You cannot use those old extensions which expect you to enter a string, displaying this "secret" is not supported by the system used by rcf.

Singing up for the otp token has a 2 minute timeout which start when you open the actual enrollment page, often the first try takes a bit longer to enter the 6 digit code from the authenticator (figuring out how to use the browser extension or smart phone app) and one gets an authentication failure. Just try again.

Chris
