Dear Gunther and Dave:
I am sorry that I cannot join the EC meeting today due to a previous appointment.
I had a quick look at the PAC presentation slides and think they do a very good job on Slides 25-26 emphasizing the severe problems with the 20 week run scenario. My only suggestion here is to make “2%” as visible as the other percentages in red on these slides, and to repeat a larger “2%” sentence on Slide 26.
Also, please note Caroline’s last name is misspelled on Slide 14.
I like the idea of “min-safe” # of cryo weeks on Slide 22.
More generally, it would be great to make a statement like “no collider detector has ever beam-commissioned and then accumulated a physics-worthy data set with only 17 weeks of circulating beam.” I believe that is true, but it would be very good to know if this is indeed factual. If so, it helps make the point to the theorists on the PAC that we are being asked to do the impossible.
Also, it would be great if STAR is singing from the same songbook, given that they are looking at the possibility of 18 weeks in 2022. They may argue that they are a mature detector and there is no issue with turning on for short runs, but I hope they would too would take the view point that such runs are inherently inefficient.
Even more of a reach would be getting a similar statement from C-AD.
Best regards,
Bill

We will have an EC meeting (with all collaborators welcome and invited!) at 11AM ET tomorrow to discuss the PAC presentations, with particular emphasis on sharpening the arguments against the 20 cryoweek option.
Slides and Zoom coordinates will be posted before the meeting - if you can't make it to this meeting, comments by email or any other form will also be most welcome.
Best,
Gunther and Dave
