Assistant Professor of Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Physics to begin August 29, 2022. This is a university year appointment and will be at the level of an Assistant Professor. We particularly seek theorists or experimentalists working in areas of Quantum Information/Computing/Optics, Nuclear Physics, or Particle Physics at the intensity frontier, but exceptional candidates will be considered in any area of current interest to the department. Information about our research areas can be found at http://lsa.umich.edu/physics/. Candidates are required to have a doctoral degree in physics or a related field. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent, externally-funded research program and to contribute effectively to the Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching missions.

All application materials should be submitted online through https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/Apply/Physics. Materials should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of current and future research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, and a personal statement and diversity commitment that includes your demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching/mentoring, and/or service/engagement. There may be some overlap with your research proposal and teaching statements.  Each of the research, teaching, and personal statements should not exceed three pages in length. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference. 

Highly qualified applicants are also encouraged to apply to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts’ Collegiate Fellowship Program, and the university’s Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, both of which provide for a fellowship period before transitioning onto the tenure track.
