Dear Camelia and Ming,

Thank you for the study and material. I am slowly catching up. I see we have access to the bias connectors in the middle of ROC board where the clearance is narrowest. I assume the access route to the Station-1 DF18 connectors (nearly top of the ROC) is not from the underneath of the X-wing, but from the side as arrow indicates in below image. Correct me if I am misunderstanding. Thanks.

Regards,

-itaru

Hi Itaru and all,

Actually, we checked the ROC bottom part first as you see in Camelia’ slides at the January collaboration meeting.

In one of the photos, you can see Jason was accessing the connector in the ROC bottom region. Russ and other experts were convinced that the clearance is sufficient to connect and disconnect the cables, and Russ communicated our testing results with INTT group.

Last Friday, Rachid was concerned about the conversion cables in the upper region of ROC, and as you can also see, you have much better clearance there.

Cheers,

Ming

Before the mock-up is re-made in BNL with the real detector later this year,

maybe a bit more clear/convincing than the pics in Ming’s slides are the ones shown in the last collb meeting [1], which show the access around the point of closest approach.

Cheers,

c.

Dear Camelia,  Thank you. I wish I could be there in Spring though, it is unlikely given the COVID situation in Japan as of now. I bet Rachid is eager to check it by himself in BNL then.  Best regards, -itaru

The mock up is dismantled in Bates, and the INTT roc+cables should be back in BNL already. The next chance to do any further checks is when the whole MVTX is in the clean tent in BNL sometime this spring. When you are welcome to come check things out too ;). c.

Hi Ming,

If I see your photo, the worst physical constraint is in the region where slow control optical driver is implemented at the one end of ROC where your fingers are locating in the photo. Is this what your are trying to demonstrate in this photo. As long as photo shows, the MVTX X-wing won't interfere with any connectors connected to ROC, but the question is how non-trivial to work on plugging/unpluging conversion cables to the DF18 ports around the other end of ROC board. Can you take another snapshot mimicking cable installation to DF18 in station-3, column-B? I just want to have a feeling if our hands won't interfere with the X-wing.

Thanks,

Hi Rachid and all, cc’d Russ and MVTX experts,

Following today’s discussion of INTT ROC conversion cables / MVTX X-wing space, I looked at a few photos from MVTX insertion mockup test at MIT back in December 2021.

It seems the concerns you raised at the meeting is not an issue at all, as there is plenty of space between MVTX X-wing and INTT ROC in the region of concern (highlighted in yellow block), see,  https://www.phenix.bnl.gov/WWW/publish/mxliu/sPHENIX/GenMeetings/2022/MVTX-INTT-ROC-Space-022022.pdf

Friends,

We will have the 127th General Meeting at noon today. In addition to the regular news items and MDC-2 update, we will hear about INTT progress and present an update on the latest RHIC schedule discussions.

The agenda can be found at https://indico.bnl.gov/event/14929/

and the connection info is copied below.

Cheers,

Gunther and Dave
