The 30th International Workshops on
Deep-Inelastic Scattering and Related Subjects
https://web.pa.msu.edu/conf/DIS2023/ First Circular DIS 2023, the 30th in the series of annual workshops on deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and related subjects, will take place at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, USA from Monday, March 27, to Friday, March 31, 2023. The conference covers a large spectrum of topics in high-energy and nuclear physics. The program will feature theoretical advances and the most recent results from experiments at BNL, CERN, DESY, FNAL, JLab, KEK and more.  The conference will be held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, which is conveniently situated on the campus of Michigan State University. All plenary and parallel sessions will take place inside the Kellogg Conference Center. The conference scientific program will start on the morning of Monday, March 27, and end late afternoon on Friday, March 31. Registration and a reception will be held on the evening of Monday, March 27 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. East Lansing is adjacent to the Michigan state capital, Lansing, and located at the heart of Michigan, which is in the midst of the Great Lakes. Many Great-Lakes destinations, including the lake beaches, scenic rivers and woodlands and local breweries are only a couple of hours away. The conference site and hotels are either on Michigan State University campus or nearby. The Red Cedar River passes through the campus right next to the conference site and features scenic biking/running trails through campus and to Lansing.  There are nearby natural areas and plenty of green space on campus and in the surrounding area. Downtown East Lansing (within walking distance) and Lansing feature diverse cuisine from the US midwest and around the world. Contact Information  More information can be found on the conference web site, which will be updated regularly: https://web.pa.msu.edu/conf/DIS2023/ If you need to contact us, please send an email to the conference chair at hwlin AT pa.msu.edu Important Deadlines Here are tentative deadlines to keep in mind: Early registration opens on November 1, 2022.  Abstract submission opens on November 1, 2022. Financial support application opens on November 1, 2022. Financial support application closes on December 1, 2022. The abstract-submission deadline is December 1, 2022 The notification for accepted submission is expected to be December 15, 2022 Financial-support notification on December 15, 2022 The hotel reservation opens on be December 15, 2022 (if not sooner) The Guido Altarelli Award 2023 nomination deadline is December 20, 2022 The early-bird registration deadline is January 15, 2023.  The regular registration deadline is February 25, 2023.  The online hotel reservation deadline is around mid-Feb. 2023; however, due to the limited number of hotel rooms available per hotel site, rooms at your preferred hotel may run out well before the hotel reservation deadline. Financial Support There is a limited amount of financial support for young researchers (students and early-career postdocs). If successful, the applicant will be granted a reduction in registration fee. The application will open on Nov. 1, 2020. More details will be in the second circular.  Guido Altarelli Award 2023 The Guido Altarelli Award honors the memory of the late Guido Altarelli, one of the founding fathers of QCD, an outstanding communicator of particle physics, and a mentor and strong supporter of junior scientists. The Guido Altarelli Award consists of a certificate and prize money. It is awarded to junior scientists for outstanding scientific contributions to the fields covered by the DIS Conference series. Please visit the webpage at https://web.pa.msu.edu/conf/DIS2023/GuidoAltarelliAward.html for more details. The nomination deadline is December 20, 2022.  Program  The DIS2023 conference includes particle physics, nuclear physics and computational physics; it usually covers (but is not limited to) the following scientific topics: Structure Functions and Parton Densities Small-x, Diffraction and Vector Mesons Electroweak Physics and Beyond the Standard Model QCD with Heavy Flavors and Hadronic Final States Spin and 3D Structure Future Experiments International Advisory Committee Halina Abramowicz (Tel Aviv) Néstor Armesto (Santiago de Compostela) Barbara Badelek (Warsaw) Olaf Behnke (DESY) Sergio Bertolucci (INFN) Ian Brock (Bonn) Allen Caldwell (MPI Munich) Amanda Cooper-Sarkar (Oxford) Abhay Deshpande (SUNY & BNL) Dmitri Denisov (BNL) John Dainton (Lancaster) Cristinel Diaconu (Marseille) Eckhard Elsen (DESY) Rolf Ent (JLAB) Joel Feltesse (Saclay) Stefano Forte (Milano) Elisabetta Gallo (DESY) Haiyan Gao (BNL) Beate Heinemann (DESY) Robert Klanner (Hamburg) Max Klein (Liverpool) Aharon Levy (Tel Aviv, Co-Chair) Bob McKeown (JLAB) Joachim Mnich (CERN) Rosario Nania (Bologna) Paul Newman (Birmingham, Co-Chair) Fred Olness (SMU Dallas) Marta Ruspa (INFN/Torino) Juan Terrón (Madrid) Robert Thorne (UCL London) Katsuo Tokushuku (KEK) Matthew Wing (DESY/UCL London) Yuji Yamazaki (Kobe) Travel Information For air travel, these are the most frequently used airports:  Capital Region International Airport (LAN)  Roughly 15 km from the conference site. Taxi/Uber and other app-based rides are commonly available. Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW)  150 km away. Biggest airport in the area. Take the Michigan Flyer bus service (to East Lansing stop;  62$ round-trip & 32$ one-way); it takes about 2 hours. There is wifi and power available on the bus. Driving time is about 1.5 hours if traffic is light. From the East-Lansing stop, it is 1.4 km to the conference site.  Other Michigan Airports  There are other Michigan airports that you may consider using, especially if you have preferred airlines to use, but there is no local public transportation. If you use these airports, you will probably have to rent a car to get to East Lansing. The other airports are:  Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) at Grand Rapid (100 km), Bishop International Airport (FNT) at Flint (71 km).  Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) 400 km away. Rent a car to get to the conference site (3.5 hours driving if no traffic) or take the Amtrak from Chicago Union Station to East Lansing (around 4 hours). This route is primarily recommended for international travelers who are interested in visiting Chicago or touring around the Great Lakes with a rental car before or after the conference.
