sPHENIX: Status and Plans

The sPHENIX detector will soon start operating at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The high expected data rate and excellent resolution of sPHENIX will allow us to probe the quark-gluon plasma using a variety of jet and heavy-flavor observables. These precision studies will complement those from STAR and the LHC experiments and will be a key requirement for the completion of the scientific mission of RHIC. This presentation will introduce the sPHENIX detector and discuss what we hope to learn from it in the coming years.
