Hi Sasha and all,

Thanks for circulating this draft, and congratulations to the writing team for what is clearly a large and involved effort.

I guess I have a general concern about the profile of the envisioned sPHENIX ColdQCD program in the document. I understand that much of the document is reviewing recent accomplishments by PHENIX and STAR, and so obviously we (sPHENIX) don’t contribute there. However, when future measurements with 2024 data are discussed, it is really just in the context of specific STAR measurements (for example, projections in Fig 14 and at multiple points in the text).

It would be great to highlight some ColdQCD measurements where we believe sPHENIX will have particularly impactful or even unique contributions. Sections 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 of our 2022 Beam Use Proposal [1] have some great projection plots for the A_N of D0’s (utilizing the sPHENIX MVTX and highlighting the streaming readout capability), A_N for direct photons (using an EMCal trigger and our excellent photon capabilities), and the h+ A_N (again taking advantage of the streaming readout, and the capabilities you yourself have explored about large-eta charged hadron measurements). I would think all of those would be perfectly appropriate to include in this White Paper!

As just one final note - “sPHENIX” is not even mentioned by name until the Appendix (!). Surely we could add some sPHENIX bullet points to the mini-summaries at the beginnings of Sections 3 and 4?

Dear All,

As a part of LRP campaign, a group of people from both STAR and (s)PHENIX has accomplished the WP draft for RHIC Cold QCD program, see attached. (s)PHENIX was represented by Ralf, Sanghwa and Sasha B. The document is planned to be sent to the LRP writing committee.
We'll be happy to get any suggestions/concerns you may have on the draft, before Jan 23.

Thanks,

Sasha for the WP writing group.
