Dear Colleagues,

Below, I attach one of the 6 final inspections that have been (just) approved by Alex Tulio (Chief Electrical Inspector

and also AHJ = Authority Having Jurisdiction).

By last Friday, we submitted all the inspection reports (like 15 of them) to Alex.  This Monday, he approved some of them and

required us to do more works on others.   The most “difficult” ones are the grounding issues for the 4 disconnect switches

and 2 transformers in our Rack Room and would require powering off all the racks in both East and West carriages.  Monday

night, we have sent a few emails to Ray Fliller (C-AD ESSHQ Head) to communicate with Alex to make sure that

Alex had been OK with other inspections and would approve J. Sandberg’s memo about the legacy equipment.

This morning, some mis-communication led to electricians led by a C-AD engineer switching off a breaker that feeds power to the

Chiller.  Fortunately, the Chiller was found to be OK later.  Then, the hard works of fixing the grounding and inspection started with

2 groups of electricians.  By lunch time, we thought that we had fixed and inspected the grounding.   Mike Dany (C-AD) did the

inspections and submitted the inspection reports.  Nevertheless, Alex quickly requested an additional grounding wire between each

disconnect switch and the transformer.

After lunch, one group (Mike Rau and Victor) quickly connected the two necessary grounding wires for 1 transformer and 2 disconnect switches.  Mike inspected and submitted the reports, and Alex approved.  But probably due to the fact that we were running out of the necessary (250.12)

grounding wires, Mike Dany deemed the other grounding work “incorrect”.   We had to spend time to look for wires.  At the end, Mike Rau found the necessary wire (from the BNL line crew) and connected the grounding wires with quite a bit of help from Joel Vasquez.  I have had to find a couple different ways to ask the other group of electricians to come back only to unlock their LOTO locks.   It’s already 6 pm when all these finished. Mike Dany stayed with us all the way, took pictures and submitted the reports soon afterwards.  The email below was the last one that approved by Alex, ~ 30 min. after the submission.

We have also turned back on all necessary racks in the West and East carriages since then.

Ray is going to have a “meeting tomorrow at 10AM with the IRR Chair and the ORE Chair to work out exactly how to close everything out”.

The end is hopefully in sight !

Kin
