Hi,
Since my email in this mailing list last Tue., we have had the following progress :
-
ORE documents were all signed off in the afternoon of May 10.
-
IRR approval memo (from Bob Lee) arrived on May 11 (afternoon) and C-AD Chair sent an email to Mike Clancy (ALD, Safety & Health Services Div.) ~1:40 pm.
-
May 12 (Fri.), M. Clancy asked for ORE documents and then ORE chair for confirming that all pre-start items were completed.
-
May 15, H. Gao et.al. met with the BHSO who had a few minor questions and were “answered” in the afternoon.
-
May 15, M. Clancy’s approval letter was sent ~4:47 pm.
And below is the email that H. Gao (Nuclear & Particle Physics Associate Lab. Director of BNL) sent to the DOE Site Office at BNL just before 6 pm.
This week, our DAQ and detector experts are having a sort of GL1-fest (Jin Huang called it) or DAQ-fest, trying to put sPHENIX subsystems together to have test runs in global trigger mode.
Today, when I left the 1008 Control Room around 6 pm, there was actually nobody except two shifters (Shift Leader and Detector Operator). It's kind of a bit different from a week ago or a few days ago that people worked late trying to fix this or that problem. I told myself that sPHENIX must be working already 😁
Currently, in RHIC, the only unusual worry is the 56 MHz superconducting RF cavity (for focusing RHIC beams longitudinally) which has allowed only limited flow rate for cool-down so far. They had warmed it up once to clear any possible blockage. Let's
hope this problem will be resolved soon so that we don't need to think about how to deal with it.

Dear Bob:
The Internal Readiness Review (IRR) for the sPHENIX Detector took place on April 5, 2023 – April 7, 2023. The IRR resulted in 6 Pre-Start Findings, 7 Post-Start Findings, and 15 Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs). Please refer to the IRR Report for details (Attachment 1).
C-AD has closed all action items related to the 6 Pre-Start Findings which have been tracked in the Integrated Operational Performance System (IOPS). Additionally, action items associated with 6 out of the 7 Post-Start Findings have been closed. The remaining Post-Start action item will be closed by 7/31/2023. The 15 OFIs have been assigned due dates and are also being tracked in the Institutional IOPS. Currently, 9 of the 15 OFIs are closed.
Robert Lee, the chair of the IRR committee, has verified closure of the Pre-Start action items (Attachment 2). The delegate for the Interim Associate Laboratory Director for the Environment, Safety and Health Directorate concurs with closure of the Pre-Start action items (Attachment 3).
We have also addressed the items that were raised during the sPHENIX Briefing that took place on 5/15/23 (Attachment 4).
Also attached is the 2023-Feb RHIC, STAR, sPHENIX, CeC, and LEReC ASE (Attachment 5).
Mike Clancy’s delegation letter is also attached (Attachment 6).
l am requesting BHSO approval for Routine Operations of sPHENIX. Should you have any questions, please contact Ray Fliller at extension 2356.
Best Regards,
Haiyan
