Hello,

I’m not sure that we’ll obtain any comprehensive RHIC repair news/schedule any time soon … though making prediction is always dangerous.

I just talked to that Cryo technician who was trying to do the investigation (and repair) in the parking lot of 1005 >an hour ago.

( I went to 1005 to talk with Cryo engineers to find out the progress of the LN2 system installation for the sPHENIX Magnet. )

Though they opened a cover of the Valvebox in 1004B (of RHIC) on Wed. after all the work-permits were signed and LOTO’s were made, that

Cryo technician only went into the Valvebox today after they made sure that all the Helium there had been purged.

He hasn’t been able to find the damaged spot/leak so far.  He told me that he will need to do some pressure test to find the damage/leak.

Apparently, they will need to LOTO an area before doing a test and depending on the outcome, they may need to take off the LOTO

and then LOTO another area before another test etc.

The electrical/power portion of the investigation/repair will have to come later and some areas may need to be cut before the electrical staff

may get access to them.  Unless something obvious presents itself quickly, it may be a while (?) before they find the problem.   And when

the “solution” will come  is anybody’s guess.

Kin

Friends,

Following the approval session on Wednesday and today's rehearsals (and considering also the many nice posters), we are in good shape for next week's QM conference - but we're not quite done yet. We will have second dry-runs for the plenary talk and the HF talk starting at 9AM tomorrow. Connection information can be found on the Indico page:

Thanks for the hard work that went into developing the material for these talks!

After some discussion, we decided to cancel the general meeting tomorrow. While we are awaiting news on the RHIC repairs shortly, those are not available yet. We will summarize any news we have on this and other topics on slides posted on the Indico page linked above.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Houston next week!

Best,

Gunther and Dave
