Dear sPHENIX collaborators,

There will be a number of synchronized "rollout" events around the U.S. for the just-released DOE/NSF NSAC long range plan.  The full list of places holding such events is below.  BNL ALD Haiyan Gao is encouraging those near BNL to come to the Large Seminar Room in the Physics Department to participate in person.  Her message to the Lab community is below too.  So, take a break at 2pm ET and come on over to Bldg. 510.  (Or drop by the event at your institution)

As a reminder, from 2 to 3 p.m. today, Friday, 10/6, simultaneous "Update on Long
Range Plan for Nuclear Science" events will be hosted across the nation for
interested members of the scientific community and beyond. Lab staff are invited to
attend the local event at Brookhaven, which will be held in the Physics Large Seminar
Room, Bldg. 510, with overflow in the reception area across the hallway.

During the event, Gail Dodge, chair of the U.S. Department of Energy/National Science
Foundation's Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC), will give an overview of "A New Era
of Discovery: The 2023 Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science"
(https://science.osti.gov/-/media/np/nsac/pdf/202310/October-4-LRP-Report.pdf), which was
released today. This document provides a roadmap for advancing the nation's nuclear science
research programs over the next decade, including at Brookhaven's Relativistic Heavy Ion
Collider, and includes strong support for the "expeditious completion" of the future
Electron-Ion Collider.

The Plan highlights the scientific opportunities of nuclear physics today to
maintain world leadership and details progress since the last long-range plan
that was published in 2015. The document also features the impact of nuclear
science on other fields, applications of the research that benefit society,
and emphasizes the importance of supporting the nuclear science workforce
essential to the research at nuclear science facilities and universities
across the U.S.

The event will also include local comments by Lab Director JoAnne Hewett and
others. At the end of the event, a group photo will be taken. Please come to
learn more about the impacts of this Plan for Brookhaven, and to share the
excitement and show support for the NSAC 2023 Long Range Plan.

- Haiyan Gao
Associate Laboratory Director for Nuclear and Particle Physics
