Hello All sPHENIXians!

We are at that exciting moment where sPHENIX Run 2024 shift sign-ups are ready to open up!    sPHENIX is going to require a huge team effort to meet our physics goals this next run.

In the tradition (and at the same level of excitement) as Taylor Swift tickets going on sale, shifts will officially open on
Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 11 pm ET !!!

Please make sure to read the following carefully before signing up.

- We are starting 2-person watch shifts the week starting on Monday, February 26, 2024.
- We are starting 4-person full  shifts the week starting on Monday, March  25, 2024.
- We are currently scheduling the last shift for the week starting on Monday, September 16, 2024.
- Keep in mind that the commitment is Tuesday-Tuesday (overlap day) plus the preceding Monday (afternoon shift training, afternoon Collider User Training for first time users), that is for a total of nine (9) days.  Please plan your travel accordingly.   No  splitting shifts.
- Additional information on required training will be sent in a separate email.

- The shift requirements for each institution are calculated as 2.5 shifts times the number of authors (using the 2023 list).     You will be able to check your institution's commitment on the web page below.
- Everyone counts!    I realize that some people are engaged in major service work, and that is great.   However, everyone counts towards the shift quota, and that is why the shift quota is by institution.     Institution leaders feel free to contact me if any issues arise, and note the separate email call for housing support requests.

-  Some important guidance on signing up....
= Based on input via the survey,  we are keeping  with three 8 hour shifts (8 am -  4 pm, 4 pm -  midnight, midnight - 8  am)
= There are four shift positions:    Shift Leader, DAQ Operator, Detector Operator, Data Monitor
= Shift Leader - this  position should be reserved with people with significant experience,  e.g., sitting prior shifts, familiarity with  the detector, etc.    Please contact me before signing up if you are unsure if  this is a good match.
= DAQ Operator - this position also requires some experience, so again please contact me if you have questions.
= New (less experienced people) - particularly new graduate students should not sign up individually for shifts.   Group leaders should try to pair them with more experienced people on shift  either from their  institution or others.    Many groups did that very successfully last run.
= Groups should also coordinate to ensure typically younger people have support for transportation, quality of life, etc.

- If you  have any questions before signing up, please contact me directly.

Finally, here is the link where you can watch the countdown clock and be one of the first to sign up!

*** If your name does not appear, this might be (i) because your institution has not responded to the phone book survey (contact your IB member) or (ii) because there was an error in transcribing the information from the phone book survey to the db.    If you have any  issues, please contact myself and Kin Yip and they can be quickly  resolved.
