sPHENIX Forward Detectors and Physics Program
sPHENIX is a newly built RHIC detector designed to study properties of the QCD matter with measurements of bulk flow, jets, and heavy quarks. To this end, sPHENIX is equipped with extended acceptance detectors— a pair of zero degree calorimeters, minimum bias and event plane detectors; as well as mid-rapidity tracking and calorimetric detectors.
sPHENIX began taking Au+Au data at 200 GeV in May 2023 primarily to commission the brand new detector. This talk will describe sPHENIX forward detectors and physics capabilities. In addition to their role in providing event characterization, these detectors in conjunction with mid rapidity detectors will be used to study soft and cold QCD physics. Finally, I will discuss the first results of these detectors using Run 2023 commissioning data.
Hi Ejiro,Very nice abstract. Please find a few of my comments below -Title -Add ‘Physics Program’sPHENIX Forward Detectors and PhysicssPHENIX is a newly built RHIC detector designed to study properties of the QCD matter with flow measurements, jets, and heavy quarks.with measurements of bulk flow, jets and heavy quarks.Possibly beak up the above sentence into two.To this end, sPHENIX is equipped with extended acceptance detectors— a pair of zero degree calorimeters, minimum bias detectors and event plane detectors in addition to mid-rapidity tracking and calorimetric detectors, which allows for improved event plane and triggering capabilities. The sentence breaks are a bit funny. Id probably just add the second half of this sentence to the next sentence.sPHENIX began taking Au+Au data at 200 GeV in May 2023 primarily to commission the brand new detector. This talk will describe sPHENIX forward detectors and physics capabilities— in addition to their role in providing event characterization, these detectors in conjunction with mid rapidity detectors will be used to study soft and cold QCD physics. Finally, I will discuss the first results of these detectors using Run 2023 commissioning data.
