Dear Collaborators, As discussed at the recent GM, there will be a 3h mini-PAC meeting a week from today, August 1. We just received the agenda and charge for that meeting, copied below. We are planning to schedule an EC meeting next week to help prepare the final response for the PAC. We also appreciate any thoughts on the charge questions you might want to share before then. Best, Gunther and Dave >>> Dear Dave, Gunther, Frank, Lijuan, and Wolfram, Please find the agenda for the Online PAC Meeting on August 1 (10 AM - 1:00 PM). Below that you'll find the charge from Abhay to sPHeNIX, STAR and CAD. Agenda of PAC Zoom Meeting Thursday, August 1, 2024 (10 AM – 1 PM) 10:00 Executive Session (Information and Questions) - PAC & ALD (30 m) 10:30 Report from CAD on RHIC Run 24 (25+5 m) 11:00 RHIC Run 24 Operation and Physics Update from sPHENIX (30+15 m) 11:45 RHIC Run 24 and Physics Update from STAR (20+10 m) 12:15 Executive Session Discussion - PAC & ALD (30 m) 13:00 Adjourn Note that there is no closeout. The goal is to assess how Run 24 is progressing and its impact on this and next year's RHIC physics program. The PAC will discuss with the ALD and will be prepared to make recommendations to the ALD if necessary on a path forward to accomplish and complete the RHIC physics program. If needed a short document will be distributed to the ALD, CAD and Collaboration spokespersons. Regards, John and Abhay
======from Abhay Deshpande to the PAC, sPHENIX, STAR and CAD======= The RHIC Run-24 is underway. It has had its challenges both on the accelerator and detector front. It is important we consider the reasons and consequence of this to the rest of the run and advise the ALD accordingly. Below are the questions I pose to the CAD, sPHENIX and STAR for presentation in the Aug 1 meeting of this group. To sPHENIX: 1. Assuming full success of the TPC (with isobutane) by August 1st what running scenario would you desire? a. Please estimate the integrated luminosities and figures of merit you would achieve in those scenarios in comparison to your goals for this run? b. How much minimum running would you desire with Au-Au for this run? 2. If the TPC does not come to full operational conditions, how would your answers to question 1 change? c. How should we address the risk of Run-25 (heavy-ion run) without a successful demonstration of operation of the TPC? To STAR: 1. 2. If the TPC does not come to full operational conditions, how would your answers to question 1 change? a. If we keep bringing STAR into collision 40 minutes after sPHENIX in p-p, what impact would that have on the overall scientific impact of this run? Feel free to demonstrate with figures. To CAD: What is the current operational status of RHIC in Run-24? What performance should we expect optimistically for p-p and Au-Au operations in the remaining times if: 1. the sPHENIX TPC works, and we run with a non-zero crossing angle at sPHENIX starting (around) August 1. Estimate the time taken to tune fills with a crossing angle at sPHENIX, and the transition from p-p to Au-Au ==================================
