Dear Colleagues:

I regret to inform you that T.D. Lee died in his sleep yesterday, August 4th. This is of course a great loss and a sad moment, but it can truly be said that T.D. lived “a life in full”.

Many of you may be unaware of the absolutely seminal role T.D. played in our field, beginning with the 1974 Bear Mountain Conference “Workshop on BeV/Nucleon Collisions of Heavy Ions”, and most importantly his essential role in the birth of RHIC https://online.ucpress.edu/hsns/issue/38/4

(This second link is behind a paywall, but easily accessible via your home institutions library.)

We can mourn his passing while celebrating T.D.’s enormous contributions to all of physics, in particular, our field.

Best regards,

Bill
