Hi folks,
about a month ago sdcc send a notification that they have to block the ports of their email server from outside connections. When I forwarded that announcement I wrote that there won't be changes on our side since we all go through ssh tunnels anyway. They made good on that promise yesterday and it turns out that my statement wasn't 100% accurate.
It was still possible to send emails without going through an ssh tunnel (and if you are like me and only update long forgotten settings when being forced to, are still using the direct connection - port 465 of rcf.rhic.bnl.gov). That was changed yesterday and now we need to go through an ssh tunnel here as well (just like what we had to do for the reading since "forever").
Sdcc provided somewhat complicated instructions how to change that:
https://www.sdcc.bnl.gov/services/email-services/email-client-configuration-use-sdcc-mail-servers
The short less intrusive version (which works for me) is adding an ssh tunnel to my setup
ssh -L 1465:mail.rhic.bnl.gov:465 ssh.sdcc.bnl.gov
and then changing my outgoing smtp server to
Server Name: localhost
Port: 1465
Chris
