It’s only a few days before Run 25 starts. I was hoping to know something more from the DOE, but it does not look likely now. So, I thought I would update you all and make sure we are on the same page.  Hence this note. I hope nothing here will surprise you.

 

At the moment the best we can plan is the following

(based a note from Wolfram):

 

- 24 Mar 2025 start 4K wave 

- 30 Jun 2025 pause operation                +14 cryo-weeks, comment:  (Jul/Aug hottest months)

- 18 Aug 2025 resume operation             + 0 cryo-weeks, comment: 7 weeks pause

- 30 Sep 2025 end of FY2025                 + 6 cryo-weeks

- 22 Dec 2025 end of Run-25                  +12 cryo-weeks, comment: based on FY26 guideline but absolutely nothing certain about this yet.

 

This is 20 cryo-weeks in FY2025. We need the FY2025 budget to know the actual number. 

 

If we cannot afford 20 cryo-weeks in FY2025, based on advice from C-AD so far (and I will also consult with the experiments when we know more) we would want to start the second part for Run-25 (based on the knowledge of FY26 fund expectation) to be continuous with FY2025.

 

One reminder is the (Remote) PAC is planned on June 17-18, 2025 which is would be a source of advice – but more on the species of operation.
